Business volunteers love Mid and East Antrim’s stunning landscape

Friday 5 October 2018

Business in the Community’s ‘Love Your Landscape Day’ put the spotlight on Mid and East Antrim’s beautiful and diverse natural environment and the organisations that manage and maintain it.

Sponsored by Out There Services and run in partnership with Northern Ireland Environment Link, Love Your Landscape Day was the ideal opportunity for local business to give back to their local environment.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has wholeheartedly supported the initiative and welcomed a number of volunteers to Parks and Open Spaces sites.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Cllr Lindsay Millar, praised volunteers across the borough who gave up their time to ensure it remains beautiful for residents and visitors.

Cllr Millar said: “We had over 20 hardworking volunteers across the borough, working on practical tasks including scrub clearance, tree management, community garden improvements and building red squirrel feeders.

“The volunteers from Caterpillar, Firmus Energy, and Allstate were very enthusiastic and really got stuck in, and I would personally like to thank them for their time and effort.

“We love our landscapes in Mid and East Antrim and have some wonderful parks and open spaces in the borough. We are committed to looking after them for the benefit of our local communities and local wildlife. The volunteers have helped to do just that.”

Denise Cranston, Head of Community Programmes, Business in the Community, said: “In Northern Ireland, we have some of the most beautiful scenery in the world on our doorstep, and this new volunteering action day seeks to celebrate these local landscapes.

“Over 400 employees rolled up their sleeves for the day and made a difference in their local communities, whilst also getting a chance to explore all that Northern Ireland has to offer. Working in teams, volunteers had the opportunity to use their skills, talent and experience for a good cause, and of course, have a bit of fun along the way!”
