Under 8 Years of Age Swimming Policy:

When an under 8 goes swimming an adult or 16 years plus person should go swimming with them.  This adult/person does not need to be able to swim, just be on hand to assist the child in the water.  The minor pool depth is 0.6 metres and the shallow end of the main pool is 1 metre.  We recommend that one adult accompanies up to 2 children under 8 years and if there are 3 children under 8 years then two adults must accompany them.  There are fully qualified lifeguards supervising the pools but their function is to keep an overview of all bathers.  If they have to affect a rescue on an unattended child this places the other bathers at risk.  Most times when a child gets into difficulty they just need a reassuring hand, the adult accompanying them can do this, lifeguards cannot.  You can leave your child with the coach/teacher of activities and classes they may attend however it is your responsibility to ensure the child is changed and ready to start the class and collected on time when the class has ended.
