19th and 20th century Ulster emigrants in Australia – A talk by David Hume

Thursday 25 April 2019
Larne Museum and Arts Centre

Time: 7.30pm to 9pm

Using letters, documentary accounts and family histories from the local area, the talk examines the story of Ulstermen and women who emigrated to Australia from the 1850s to the 1920s.

We examine the reasons for emigrating, what the emigrant journey was like, and what awaited the new arrivals down under. Includes illustrations and a study of several individuals and families including the emigration of Marriott Dalway in the 19th century and the Barry family of Magheramorne.
