Richard Hayward’s East Antrim- A talk by Paul Clements

Richard Hayward (1892-1964) was raised and educated in Larne, a place that always held a special affection in his heart.

Hayward became one of Ireland’s leading cultural figures and in a busy career; he was a writer, singer, actor and film star, as well as a broadcaster, tour guide and folklorist. In his poetry and travel books, his films and singing, he celebrated the East Antrim coast and was inspired by the landscape, its people and its history.

In this talk, Paul Clements will focus on the significance of the area on Richard Hayward’s work and how he helped to promote tourism in Co. Antrim in the middle decades of the 20 century.
