The Commissioners of Irish Lights (CIL) are appointed under statute to act as the General Lighthouse Authority for Ireland. They are responsible for the superintendence and management of the Aids to Navigation around the coast of all of Ireland, its adjacent seas and islands.

Pat joined the Irish Lighthouse Service on Wednesday 1 November 1978.  During his 14 years as a keeper he was stationed on 25 of the then 28 operational lighthouses around the island of Ireland.

In recent years he has been requested by heritage groups and varied societies to present on Irish Lighthouses and the life of the lighthouse keeper.
