Celebrate National Walking Month 2025

A programme of #FREE walking-focused events to get you out there this May!

Booking required for all events and can be booked by visiting our Eventbrite page.

Friday 9 May

Step through Broughshane

Houston’s Mill at 7pm

Spend 60-90 minutes with like-minded people immersing yourself in the story of Broughshane Village.

Hosted by local tour guide, Ali Donaghy who will bring the past to life with tales of the peoples, places and events that helped shape this village.

Comfortable shoes and clothing required, curiosity recommended.

Saturday 10 May

Spring Walk with Friends of Bashfordsland Wood

Oakfield Community Centre at 10am

Become a friend of the Woodland!

Come along to our Friends of Bashfordsland Wood Group.

We will go for a Spring Walk through the woods, to assess the site and to identify areas for future tasks.

We may also carry out some conservation tasks.

Everyone welcome!

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear and bring gloves and a mug - we will provide tea and coffee.

Monday 12 May

Woodburn Women’s Walk.

Woodburn Forest at 7pm

Join Outdoor Recreation Officer, Lisa Kirkwood and other local women in Woodburn forest for an evening of walking and connection.

Wednesday 14 May

The Hidden Village, Galboly at 7pm

Join Antrim Glens native and trained tour guide Robert Stewart to explore The Hidden Village of Galboly and beyond!

Expect fantastic historical insight, local stories and great craic whilst you walk and enjoy the great outdoors.

Walk guided by Ramble with Robert.

  • 2-2.5 hours walking - including steep inclines
  • Suitable clothing and footwear required
  • No small children or dogs
  • Good level of fitness needed

Buggy Babies

ECOS at 11am

We will meet at ECOS Hub and head for a dander.

It is so important to get out there and into the fresh air, meeting other caregivers who understand the struggle make this a little easier.

Wild Wanders in Portglenone Forest

Portglenone Forest at 7pm

Immerse yourself in this Ancient Woodland as we explore the story of Portglenone Forest

Spend an hour with like-minded people immersing yourself in the story of Portglenone Forest, a whistle-stop tour of the tales these trees hold in their trunks.

Hosted by local tour guide, Ali Donaghy

With hundreds of years to fit into our 60-90 minutes so we will be on the move with 2.5km to cover and varied inclines, mostly on established forest trails but there will be options to head off on the paths less travelled.

This is a “Challenge by Choice” tour so we can work with you on what you feel comfortable with.

The ground underfoot will be rough and muddy, so appropriate footwear is required.

Ballylumford

Ballylumford at 7pm

Join Antrim Glens native and trained tour guide Robert Stewart, on a relaxing walk from Ballylumford to Skernaghan Point
