Funding available for local organisations to provide inclusive summer activities
Tuesday 19 May 2026
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has introduced its first ‘Inclusive Summer Opportunities Grant Funding Scheme’. It will help create and expand opportunities for children and young people with a range of disabilities across the Borough.
The £12,000 funding scheme will support projects delivering fun, accessible and free summer activities that encourage social interaction, build confidence, support learning, and promote physical and mental wellbeing.
Applications are invited from constituted organisations delivering multiple session projects in Mid and East Antrim between 1 July and 31 August 2026. Funding is not available for a single one-off event.
Eligible activities may include:
- Inclusive sports and recreation activities
- Creative activities
- Inclusive day activities and local recreational trips
- Community events that bring the community together
- Educational and developmental activities
Councillor Matthew Armstrong, Chairman of the Inclusion & Equality Sub-Committee said: “As a council we like to offer dedicated funding opportunities where possible. Typically, these are for community development, sports clubs and businesses.
“We are proud of the inclusive work across the Borough and want to offer support to ensure everyone has fun this summer. Together with local groups we can make it a memorable time for those children and young people with complex disability needs.”
Up to £4,000 is available in each of the main towns of Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne along with their surrounding areas.
Councillor Maeve Donnelly, Vice-Chair of the Inclusion & Equality Sub-Committee added: “We would encourage all interested organisations and charities, which meet the criteria to apply online for this funding scheme. Applicants will be required to provide information on their great work and how they could enhance their local inclusive programme this summer.
“Feedback from the parents and carers of participating children and young people will help us evaluate the success and impact of the scheme.”
Guidance notes and online applications are available on the Inclusive Summer Opportunities Grant Scheme 2026 section of our Grants portal.
