Take a step back in time to explore new Heritage Hub in Carnlough

Thursday 10 May 2018

The new Heritage Hub at Carnlough Town Hall is gearing up for its official launch.

The upper floor of the town hall will be used as a flexible community meeting space and for exhibitions on industrial heritage, geology and natural heritage. It’s hoped that the displays will boost self-guided tourism in Carnlough and encourage visitors to explore what else the Glens have to offer.

The launch event will take place at 11am on Friday 8 June at the Londonderry Arms Hotel. To celebrate, tours of the Heritage Hub will take place between 12:30pm and 2pm.

The exhibition is now open to the public through the efforts of local volunteers to tie in with planned walks. Opening hours for the exhibition over the summer months will be advertised locally. Please contact Carnlough Community Association for more details.

The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Councillor Paul Reid said, “We are thrilled to have received support thanks to National Lottery players are confident the project will support the local community and visitors to the area.

“The launch will be a great opportunity for the Carnlough community to enjoy their new exhibition and associated film created over the past year which highlights Carnlough’s rich maritime and mining history.

“The support given by the National Heritage Lottery has been paramount in creating a space where members of the Carnlough and the wider Glens community can meet and celebrate their history. Furthermore, the free walking tours are an excellent opportunity to see the beautiful scenery Northern Ireland has to offer, with the expertise of local tour guides.”

Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project offers a multi-use community space.

The Carnlough Industrial Heritage Hub project is led by the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in partnership with Carnlough Community Association and the Causeway Coast and Glens Heritage Trust. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.
