Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is delighted to announce that the highly anticipated development of Marine Gardens play park in Carrickfergus will commence in February 2024.

This transformative project will create an accessible and inclusive play space, bringing adventure, excitement and fun to children and families in the local community.

With the vision of providing a destination play park that caters to the diverse needs of residents, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has collaborated with industry-leading experts to design a space that will inspire imagination, encourage physical activity and foster social connections.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Gerardine Mulvenna, said: "The Marine Gardens play park is a testament to Council’s commitment to create a vibrant and inclusive community. We believe that every child deserves a space where they can freely explore, play and create lasting memories. This new play park will be an amazing site full of fun and adventure for children of all abilities."

The play park will feature exciting play equipment - carefully selected to promote physical development, cognitive skills and sensory exploration. From thrilling slides and climbing frames to interactive sensory areas and inclusive swings - the Marine Gardens play park will offer a wide range of activities to suit every child’s interest and ability.

Furthermore, the design will incorporate accessible pathways, ensuring that children, parents and carers with mobility challenges can navigate the space independently. Seating areas will also be available, allowing parents and caregivers to relax and supervise their children comfortably.

Council is committed to creating a play park that reflects the unique character of the local community with the design incorporating elements inspired by local heritage - showcasing the area’s rich history and cultural identity.
