The Gobbins reopen to visitors

Friday 20 March 2026

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is pleased to confirm that The Gobbins has reopened to visitors.

Its reopening marks the return of one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic coastal attractions for the new season.

It follows a period of essential closure in the aftermath of storm damage sustained last January.

A standout landmark on the Causeway Coastal Route, The Gobbins offers a unique experience along the dramatic coastline, featuring spectacular views, tunnels, walkways and bridges.

Thousands of visitors travel each year to enjoy an unforgettable and unique day out, with guided tours bringing the area’s natural beauty and industrial heritage to life in a safe, managed way.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said the reopening has been welcomed extensively.

“There has been significant anticipation from visitors eager to return to The Gobbins, which is one of our most iconic visitor experiences,” he said.

“I know just how much it has been missed by both local people and those travelling to the Borough, therefore, I’m delighted it has reopened after vital repair work.

“Safety has rightly guided every decision throughout this process and I want to thank our teams and specialist contractors for the work carried out.”

The Mayor added: “We are looking forward to a successful year ahead, welcoming everyone back to experience this truly unique attraction.”

The reopening has marked a welcome return for guided tours, allowing visitors to experience the coastline safely while learning more about the area’s natural and industrial heritage. Booking in advance is recommended.

The Gobbins continues to be highly rated by visitors from across the world including China, Australia and Brazil - with 96% of those surveyed saying they would recommend the experience and 95% rating it as good value for money, according to official data.

The cliff path was closed last year to carry out repairs following rockfall caused by storms.
