Tuesday 25 July 2023

There are only days left to apply for the next Transport Academy taking place in Mid & East Antrim.

Transport Academy

During July, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are recruiting up to 20 Academy participants.  Selected applicants will have the option of working towards a Category C (HGV Class 2) licence or a PCV (bus/coach) licence.

Borough residents who wish to be considered must meet the eligibility criteria outlined on Council’s Transport Academy page and submit their expression of interest by the deadline of 31 July 2023.

The Transport Academy is one of a suite of interventions contained within Mid and East Antrim Labour Market Partnership’s (#MEALMP) annual action plan.

Labour Market Partnerships - which create targeted employment action plans for council areas - are funded by the Department for Communities and allow for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.

The Partnership is led by Council and includes a range of community, voluntary and statutory stakeholders working together to overcome local employability challenges with the primary objective of supporting more people into meaningful employment.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Gerardine Mulvenna, said: “Council is delighted to receive applications for the next round of the Transport Academy. This is an exciting opportunity for eligible candidates to gain the necessary training, theory and practical learning needed to pass the Category C (HGV Class 2) licence or a PCV (bus/coach) licence – which will greatly enhance their employability and future prospects in this career field. I would encourage anyone interested to find out more.”

Norman Sterritt, Joint Chair of Mid and East Antrim Labour Market Partnership said: “The Transport Academy provides a fantastic opportunity to get into employment by providing all the theory and practical training required to get an HGV or PCV licence. We would encourage unemployed, economically inactive or underemployed people to apply for the Transport Academy and start a new career. The Labour Market Partnership is currently developing a range of employability and skills interventions which we look forward to implementing over the next year”.
