2025/26 Activate Your Curiosity Initiative Empowers the Next Generation of STEAM Innovators
Wednesday 10 September 2025
Last week marked the launch of the 2025–26 ‘Activate Your Curiosity’ initiative - a dynamic STEAM programme co-founded by world-renowned physicist and broadcaster Professor Brian Cox CBE, FRS.

Designed to ignite curiosity and inspire young minds, the initiative engages students through hands-on experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
Activate Your Curiosity 2025-26 is delivered by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and is a ‘Making the Future’ initiative. Headlined by Saint-Gobain Exterior Solutions (formerly known as Kilwaughter Minerals) and sponsored by Michelin Development, Caterpillar, Moore Concrete, Teva, Terumo, EPUKI and Phoenix Energy, the initiative is also funded by the Department of Communities, Labour Market Partnerships which create targeted employment action plans for local council areas, allowing for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.
The initiative will deliver a vibrant programme of activities designed to ignite creativity, curiosity, and a lasting interest in STEAM subjects among primary and post-primary students. The programme will feature an array of engaging components, including:
- Creative Competitions: Inspiring students to think innovatively and apply their STEAM knowledge in imaginative ways.
- Interactive School Workshops: Bringing STEAM to life through dynamic, hands-on sessions delivered directly in classrooms.
- Behind-the-Scenes Industry Visits: Giving students exclusive access to local companies to see how STEAM drives real-world innovation and success.
In January, the initiative will host an exciting flagship event packed with hands-on workshops that invite students to explore the world of STEAM through quirky, experimental, and fun-filled activities. The event will also feature a series of TED-style talks from leading industry experts, offering powerful insights and real-world perspectives on innovation, creativity, and the future of STEAM.
Speaking at the launch, the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Mindford, said:
"It’s a privilege to see the Activate Your Curiosity initiative return to Mid and East Antrim for a fourth consecutive year. This programme is more than just a series of events—it’s an investment in our young people and the future of our Borough. By bringing together educators, employers, and students, we’re creating meaningful opportunities that spark interest in STEAM from an early age. It’s encouraging to witness such strong collaboration, which not only highlights local career pathways but also strengthens the pipeline of talent that our economy needs to thrive."
David Watson, Chair of the Making The Future (MTF), shared his enthusiasm for the initiative:
"We’re passionate about sparking curiosity in young people and opening their eyes to the exciting opportunities within STEAM. By connecting students with industry professionals and offering hands-on, real-world experiences, we aim to inspire the next generation of innovators, creators, and problem solvers."
