Monday 11 May 2026

Ballymena is marking a remarkable milestone in 2026, celebrating 400 years of rich history, vibrant communities and shared stories. To honour this special anniversary, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has unveiled an exciting programme of events for residents and visitors alike.

A morning of clay crest making is the first event for the younger residents at The Braid, Ballymena on Saturday 16 May from10.30am to 12.15pm.  They will learn about the history of The Adairs who in the early 1600s, arrived and established the foundations of the Ballymena known today.

On Saturday 23 May a flagship day of celebration will take place in Ballymena from 10.30am to 4.00pm. Festivities will begin with a colourful, community-led parade through the town centre at 10.30am, followed by a free fun-filled event for all ages in People’s Park from 12 noon.

The Ballymena 400 Celebration Parade promises a colourful procession featuring community, youth groups and sports organisations, all united through music, creativity and shared pride.

In People’s Park, visitors can enjoy a packed schedule of entertainment and activities including live music, face painting, circus skills workshops, an artisan market and a children’s fun fair. Other attractions include a petting farm, barrel rides, 17th century re-enactors, a climbing wall, gaming bus, storytelling sessions, arts and crafts activities.

Mayor of Mid & East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said: “During 2026, we are looking forward to celebrating the inclusive, diverse community we have become over 400 years. From historic talks reflecting the determination of our forefathers to showcasing the fantastic people who shape Ballymena today – there truly is something for everyone.

“I am especially excited to see the town centre awash with colour and energy during the celebration parade before we gather in People’s Park for a vibrant programme of activities including live music and an artisan market.

“Four centuries on, Ballymena continues to grow and evolve, but its strong sense of community remains at its heart. This year, we invite everyone to come together and celebrate this incredible anniversary!”

Everyone is welcome to take part and celebrate this historic milestone throughout the year.
