Mid and East Antrim ‘tees up’ with the NI Legends event at Galgorm

The greens and fairways of Galgorm are once again set to welcome golfing stars as Mid and East Antrim Borough Council helps to keep momentum above par for the NI Legends event.

From the 2 to 6 September 2026, the Borough will play host to a premier field of senior golf legends, including former US Open Champion Michael Campell from New Zealand, with the event promising to another stellar occasion in Northern Ireland’s summer sporting calendar.

Now part of the Staysure Legends Tour, the NI Legends event will highlight some of the game’s most celebrated names aged 50 and over, including the return of defending champion - Markus Brier. It is expected to draw spectators from across the UK, Ireland and beyond to what is always a world-class field of golfers.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman Thomas Gordon highlighted the Council’s role as a key partner to this high-profile event to the area:

“I am thrilled to once again welcome elite-level golf to Mid and East Antrim. Our Borough has firmly proven itself as a leading destination for sporting excellence and the NI Legends event will be no exception.

“This is about more than golf – it’s about showcasing all our area has to offer, from our outstanding hospitality and accommodation providers to our vibrant local businesses. The economic benefits, through tourism, visitor spend and international attention, are significant and much welcomed.

“Galgorm continues to play a vital role in Northern Ireland’s golden era of golf, and the NI Legends event is another milestone in our ongoing commitment to position Mid and East Antrim firmly on the world stage and deliver lasting benefits for the Borough,” he said.

Ross Oliver, Director of Golf at Galgorm, echoed the excitement:

“This year’s NI Legends event on the Staysure Legends Tour will be the 21st international event staged at Galgorm, dating back to 2008,” explained Oliver. “We are delighted to welcome the stars of the Legends Tour for what promises to be another wonderful tournament week at Galgorm.

“A host of household names are set to compete at Galgorm in September with Major champions, Ryder Cup heroes all taking to the Championship Castle course. It’s great news that New Zealand legend Michael Campbell is also set to compete, so soon after his compatriot Ryan Fox won The Open at Royal Birkdale recently. Ryan is a former winner of the NI Open at Galgorm in 2016.”  

The NI Legends is also one of the select tournaments offering The Legends Experience, giving amateur golfers the opportunity to compete alongside Legends Tour professionals under tournament conditions, complemented by official hospitality throughout the week.

The 54-hole professional tournament will run from Wednesday 2 to Sunday 6 September with two pro-am events on Wednesday and Thursday of tournament week too.
