Portglenone businesses offer their ‘comfort facilities’ as part of new Community Toilet Scheme

Wednesday 4 March 2026

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has partnered with local businesses along Main Street in Portglenone for its new ‘Community Toilet Scheme’ in the village.

This scheme allows members of the public to use their toilet facilities for free during normal opening hours without having to make a purchase.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford said:

“I am delighted to promote this new partnership between the council and local Portglenone businesses to actively encourage the public to avail of convenient toilets. These local businesses are offering clean, safe and accessible toilets at no cost.

“This is an appreciated way for local businesses to give something back to their community. They are adding to the existing public conveniences in Portglenone village, found at Portglenone Marina.

“We are supporting the participating businesses through promotion and an annual fee for the provision of their facilities. I have no doubt by being involved in this scheme they will benefit from greater footfall into their premises.”

Whilst businesses must make their toilet facilities available to members of the public, they retain the right to refuse entry to anyone who would normally be refused entry to the premises.

The following premises are currently operating as part of the Community Toilet Scheme:

  • The Wild Duck, 93 Main St, Portglenone
Wednesday to Thursday from 12noon to 8pm
Friday and Saturday from 12noon to 9pm
    Sunday from 12noon to 8pm
  • The Fiddler’s Rest, 71 Main St, Portglenone
Wednesday to Sunday from 12noon until late
  • O’Connells Bar, 10 Main St, Portglenone
Monday to Sunday from 11.30am to 11.30pm

If your Portglenone-based business would like to be considered as part of the Community Toilet Scheme or for further information on the initiative, please contact the council’s Waste Helpdesk at Waste.Helpdesk@midandeastantrim.gov.uk or call T: 0300 124 5000.
