The Big Imagination Challenge - The Ultimate Story Dome Competition

Friday 20 February 2026

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is thrilled to announce an unforgettable opportunity for schools as part of our Activate Your Curiosity programme!

Council has teamed up with acclaimed local storyteller Vicky McFarland from Tale Time to offer Primary 7 pupils the chance to win a fully funded, four‑week creative workshop programme that promises to bring imagination, innovation, and storytelling to life both in the classroom and inside an immersive storytelling dome!

Blending the magic of the arts with the excitement of technology, the programme shines a spotlight on the STEAM subjects in a way that is dynamic, hands-on, and deeply engaging for pupils.

Announcing the launch of The Big Imagination Challenge, Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for some of our youngest minds to see where their creativity and imaginations can take them.

“Storytelling is at its best when imagination, creativity, and curiosity collide.

“This competition gives Primary 7 pupils the chance to see their ideas leap off the page and surround them in a world they’ve built themselves.

“This is the perfect opportunity for primary school pupils to discover the power of their own stories and to show them that creativity and innovation go hand in hand.

“I can’t wait to see what incredible worlds they dream up."

Over four inspiring weeks, the winning pupil’s class will work with Vicky to create an original piece of work.

Their creation will be brought to life in a grand finale showcase, where pupils will see their ideas transformed into something truly spectacular inside the fully immersive dome.

Designed to ignite curiosity, boost confidence, and encourage creative thinking - this competition is perfect for nurturing the next generation of storytellers, innovators, and problem‑solvers.

Open to Primary 7 pupils at schools within the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area, entry forms are available to download now and entries close on Friday 27 March 2026 at 12noon.

The winning pupil and school will be notified by Friday 17 April 2026, with the four‑week programme structured to fit within the school timetable.
