Thousands enjoy spectacular Armed Forces Day in Larne!

Monday 19 June 2023

Thousands of visitors made their way to Sandy Bay Playing Fields in Larne at the weekend for a spectacular day out in celebration of Armed Forces Day NI 2023.

And what a day out it was! Highlights from the day included a historic 21 Gun Salute to mark the King’s official birthday and an amazing aerial display from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster bomber - plus a flypast by the current RAF P8 Poseidon – much to the delight of everyone!

The event began with a parade to Sandy Bay Playing Fields and a Drumhead Service, with the action-packed day also featuring performances from the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment, a fantastic Military Village, interactive & static military displays and an Army Air Corp Gazelle helicopter (static display).

Taking to the stage were talented musicians from The Music Yard in Larne, The Swingtime Starlets and righteous rock and soul brothers The Gold Tips.

There was also an array of children’s entertainment plus an Ulster Aviation Society static display and Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths (STEM) competition.

The day was in honour of the Armed Forces community – serving troops, reserves, cadets, veterans and their families – for their service and sacrifice at home and overseas – and concluded with a Beating the Retreat Finale.
