Groups from Carrickfergus are Invited to Apply for ‘Grab a Grand’ Funding for Community Projects
Wednesday 24 September 2025
Local community groups are being invited to apply for funding of up to £1,000 through the new ‘Grab a Grand’ initiative in Carrickfergus.

This funding project gives groups the chance to secure up to £1,000 to deliver projects that will make a positive difference in their local area. Whether it’s improving facilities, running events, or supporting people in need, the funding is designed to help communities bring their ideas to life, by deciding where best this money is spent.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said:
“We’re delighted to work with our partners on this exciting initiative. Grab a Grand is more than just a funding programme – it’s about empowering local people to shape the future of their own community. By putting decisions directly into the hands of residents, we can support projects that truly reflect local priorities, build stronger connections and make a lasting impact.”
Once all applications are received, shortlisted groups will present their ideas at a Community Voting Day on Thursday 6 November 2025 at Carrickfergus Town Hall. Residents from across Carrickfergus are invited to come along, hear about the proposals, and vote for the projects they believe should receive funding.
This participatory budgeting approach gives local people the power to decide which projects they want to see in their community, ensuring funding goes to initiatives with the most community support.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, in partnership with Clanmil Housing, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Carrickfergus and Greenisland Community Cluster, and Carrickfergus Community Forum, is delighted to announce the launch of the ‘Grab a Grand’ funding initiative.
Applications are now open and must be submitted by 12 noon on Friday 17 October 2025.
