MEA marks Remembrance Sunday with commemorations

A number of services have been held across Mid and East Antrim to mark Remembrance Sunday, commemorating those who lost their lives in World War One and Two and other conflicts.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, and Interim Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Valerie Watts lay a wreath on Remembrance Sunday in Ballymena.

Ceremonies were held at the War Memorials in Ballymena, Carrickfergus and Larne.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, was among those in attendance in Ballymena – laying a wreath alongside Mid and East Antrim Borough Council Interim Chief Executive Valerie Watts.

The Mayor said: “It is my honour as Mayor of Mid and East Antrim to have joined our veterans and servicemen and women in paying tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

“At this solemn time, we pause to remember and reflect on the courage, sacrifice and service of the fallen.

“They should never be forgotten.”

A number of other commemorations were also held on Remembrance Sunday in the villages of, Broughshane, Cullybackey, Glynn, Kells and Connor, and Whitehead, while Ballycarry held its commemoration on Friday 7 November.

At each location across the Borough, poppy wreaths were laid on behalf of Council.
