MEA Residents ‘Nail It’ Following Completion of DIY Bootcamps
Wednesday 11 February 2026
The DIY achievements of 19 Mid and East Antrim (MEA) residents were celebrated at an event in Larne Town Hall.
Custom-made tables and bespoke lamps created by the participants were on display as they received certificates to mark the successful completion of the MEA DIY Bootcamps.
The intensive 12-week programme to help carry out essential home repairs was delivered by Building It Better NI in partnership with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. Participants attended weekly sessions in Carnlough and Carrickfergus. Through hands-on training they gained confidence across a range of areas including the safe use of power tools, carpentry, basic electrics, tiling, wall panelling, and painting and decorating.
In addition to practical experience, participants achieved an OCN Level 2 qualification in Vocational Skills and an OCN Level 1 qualification in Numeracy, and developed valuable personal, communication, and teamwork skills.
The course was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application. Participants had the opportunity to design and build functional furniture from scratch, accurate measurement, and professional finishing techniques.
A high level of craftsmanship and technical ability was obtained by these 19 individuals.
