Friday 7 November 2025
Step into the history of MEA and uncover the stories behind War Memorials and Monuments across the Borough with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s new interactive website.
This website offers instant access to the locations, images, and meanings of our many sites of Remembrance – embark on an interactive journey through the Borough’s rich heritage and the people who shaped it.
Developed by the Council’s Memorials Sub-Committee, the website was created to ensure the stories behind the Memorials are preserved and shared widely. With many visitors seeking out information on local sites of Remembrance, it offers a simple, interactive way to explore Memorials, Monuments, and Commonwealth Gravestones in cemeteries across the Borough.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said:
“This website ensures that our Memorials are not only places of reflection but also gateways to knowledge and understanding. It brings history into the hands of our community in a modern, accessible way, helping us all to appreciate the depth of service and sacrifice that shaped our Borough.”
Accessible immediately via QR code and in Borough museums, the website is complemented by digital displays in Carrickfergus and Larne, with Ballymena to follow. These interactive resources provide visitors with detailed information on Memorials and graves, making history more engaging and accessible for visitors.
Chair of the Memorial Committee, Councillor Peter Johnston, added:
“This launch marks a significant step forward in preserving and sharing our Borough’s rich history of service and sacrifice. The website makes Remembrance accessible to everyone, wherever they are, and invites users to take their own journey of Remembrance through the stories that define our community.”
The War Memorials and Monuments website will continue to grow as new information emerges, ensuring that Mid and East Antrim’s legacy of Remembrance endures and evolves with time.
