The project - which aimed to create a more inclusive and accessible space - has transformed the park into a vibrant and exciting playground for children of all ages and abilities.

Following a consultation process with local people the play park has been designed to encourage inclusive, accessible play alongside adventure, challenge and imagination.

The reopening of this park marked a day of many emotions as local people gathered not only to celebrate the restoration of this play space, but also to honour the beautiful life of Scarlett Rossborough.  The Mayor, Councillor Jackson Minford, was joined by Scarlett’s family to officially open the park with an unveiling of artwork created by Scarlett’s friends.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Jackson Minford, said: “It is great to see the completion of this work – such an amazing resource for local families and I was honoured to be joined by the Rossborough family.

“This play park has been refurbished as part of the Council’s Play Investment Framework and Out to Play Strategy.  This strategy and ongoing investment demonstrate the importance placed on play throughout the Borough”.

The fun day on 20 June 2025 was funded through the Larne Area Community Cluster. The Cluster is a community development initiative facilitated by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. It promotes collaboration across the community and voluntary sector, ensuring that groups work together to share resources, expertise, and capacity to deliver meaningful benefits for the local community.

Currently, many community groups are registered with the Larne Area Community Cluster, working together to drive collective action and enhance community engagement in Larne.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are committed to providing safe, accessible and inclusive play parks across the Borough with annual investment in play parks in line with the Council’s Out to Play strategy and Play Investment Framework which is developed in consultation with elected members and information provided from local people.
