Ballymena City of the Eight Towers?

Local children create new fantasy tower to make 8 towers for Ballymena.
A new fantasy mural has appeared as if by magic in Bryan Street, with the help of Artists Leo Boyd, Laura Nelson and local children.
Workshops were held in The Braid Arts Centre on the theme of comics and cartoons and local children have delivered a new fabulous monster sized artwork for the town centre.
The Bryan Street mural, which is part of a larger arts project called Opening Doors being delivered by the Arts Service of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, was supported and partnered by BID – Ballymena Improvement District.
BID and Councils Arts Service identified some sites in the town centre for re-imaging and engaged professional mural artists to deliver workshops for local children.
The theme was to create an 8th tower for Ballymena and to imagine who lived there and what happens in the new fantasy Ballymena.
The children have imagined all sorts of exciting new things in the fantasy Ballymena, from bright red tractors to flying spaceships and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz makes an appearance.
The artwork and wider project was funded and supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
BID Manager, Kathleen McBride, commented ‘Such Art Work brings a sense of fun and so much colour to the town centre. It’s great to see local children engaged in developing their surroundings through these imaginative visuals.’
