DfC guidance for private rented tenants and landlords during the Covid-19 outbreak

Legislation was introduced in 2007 which provides a new structure for the private rented sector in NI. The new system will reward the efforts of landlords who provide good quality housing for their tenants and removes restrictions which would hamper the development of good quality privately rented housing. Protected tenants will retain their security of tenure.

All private landlords should be aware of the new Landlord Registration Scheme which came into force in Northern Ireland on 25th February 2014.

The Tenancy Deposit Schemes Regulations (Northern Ireland) Order 2012 were approved by the Assembly in September last year and came into operation on 1 November 2012.
