We have the power to investigate, and where appropriate, take enforcement action in respect of the following:

  • Noise
  • Smoke/dust
  • Odour from industrial/trade premises
  • Accumulations of rubbish
  • Insects emanating from industrial/trade premises
  • Artificial light
  • Foul or blocked drains

Find out more about waste crime and how you can report it on NIDirect.

You can submit a noise report using the Noise app.

How do I report a problem?

Contact our Environmental Health Department or complete the form below.

Anonymous complaints may not be formally investigated.

How are complaints investigated?

You will be asked to provide the following information:

  • Your name, address and contact details
  • The name and address of where the problem is arising from.
  • Dates and times of when the problem occurs. We will provide you with log sheets to record this information. Note – for noise cases, we may issue you with a link to use the NoiseApp. which can be used to record information to assist with the investigation.
  • You will usually be asked to complete this for 4 to 6 weeks.
  • The person responsible for the alleged problem will usually be written to within the period in an attempt to resolve the matter.

On receipt of log sheets or NoiseApp recordings, an officer will review the submitted evidence and determine whether further investigation is necessary, either by visiting your property or installing monitoring equipment.

If an officer considers a statutory nuisance exists due to this pollution, the council can take enforcement action. Where the problem persists, we may prosecute the person responsible through the Magistrates Court.

Should you wish to make a complaint, please telephone 0300 124 5000 or email: mea.envhealth@midandeastantrim.gov.uk
