Bryson Kerbside Collections

Wednesday 14 January 2026 - UPDATE

We have recognised the level of recycling box collection service disruption from Bryson Recycling in the Ballymena and Carrickfergus areas.

Service issues have been compounded by sustained driver shortages and unprecedented sickness levels within their organisation.

To improve the service for our residents, council frontline staff will be temporarily operating an evening 'mop-up' service.

This will be assessed on a daily basis as it will be entirely resource-dependent. This will cover any missed recycling collections only.

There will be no change to how residents should present their boxes, and this will ensure minimal disruption.

Box recycling waste will continue to be recycled even when collected in a MEA Council vehicle.

This waste will be sent for recycling via the same process as the Larne blue bin and glass waste.

The most efficient way to manage these missed collections for residents will be reporting them through the waste helpdesk email: Waste.Helpdesk@midandeastantrim.gov.uk.

Calls will still be accepted, however please be aware of increased hold times due to high call volumes.

As Bryson will be completing scheduled collections until 4pm each day, we ask that no missed boxes are reported before then on their scheduled day, as Bryson may still complete the service.

There will be no additional cost to Council or ratepayers as we will recover the costs directly from Bryson.

Ballymena collections - 15 January 2026:

* These bins will be collected by Bryson Recycling on 16 January, so will not be added to the mop up list for Council crews at this time.
